I was searching all around for a countdown to Christmas Advent Calendar this year for our 2-year-old. All I could find though were ones that came with 25 little prizes of some sort that I knew were going to just take up more space in our toy bins (I’m awful at getting rid of toys lol). We just needed one that we could count down the days until Christmas. So I figured why not make one! This project was fun to do together and our little man loves to take off a ring each morning. You can make this easy homemade advent calendar with what you have at home. Otherwise, I did make a Printable Countdown to Christmas Chain for you so that you can just print and create!
How to make an easy homemade Advent Calendar?
Materials:
- Paper (Red and Green)
- Scissors
- Crayons
- Tape or Glue
- Black Marker
- Free Printable (Found at the bottom of this Post)
Step 1
Print out the pages. Be sure to alternate red and green paper in the printer so the rings go in a pattern.
Or
Create Rings and heading. You can make lines down your red and green paper so you know where to cut and then label each ring with a number from 1-25. On the heading write “Days Until Christmas”
Step 2
Let your little one color. Whether it is the printed heading page or the one you created, your kiddo can add their own personal touch to the calendar.
Step 3
Cut. You will need to cut all of the rings and a small slit on your heading for the rings to attach to.
Step 4
Tape or glue! I preferred using tape to connect each ring just out of ease but you can totally use glue as well. Connect all 25 rings and attached the last one through the slit in the heading page.
Step 5
Hang up and enjoy! It ends up being pretty tall (ours starts at the top of our door frame) so find a place that works best in your house. Then you get to enjoy counting down the days until Christmas with your little ones!
I hope you have fun making this printable countdown to Christmas chain with your kids! Let me know how it turns out in the comments below!
Enjoy this Christmas Season,
