Gift Ideas for a 1 Year Old Boy

With Christmas right around the corner, I wanted to share some of our little man’s favorite things to play with over the last year. He has a January birthday so he’s been 1 basically from last Christmas to this coming Christmas and he has loved many things along the way! My goal was to come up with options for any price point from 10$ to 100$. So here is a list of gift ideas for a 1-year-old boy that I would suggest.

Gift Idea for 1 year old

3 in 1 Tricycle

This is hands down one of the favorites in our house. O loves riding on it! He calls it his “bike” and we love it because it can be used for a long time! We got this for him when he was around 18 months and he got the hang of it right away. My favorite thing about it is that we can transition it more and more as he gets older. Right now he doesn’t have the pedals on and scoots around just fine but as he gets to the next level developmentally we can add them. Also as he gets better with balance we can turn it into a balance bike as well. It’s so great! It comes in other colors so you can choose what your kiddo would love the most.

blocks for 1 year old boy

Mega Blocks Wagon

Our little man actually got this for Christmas Last year, right before he turned one, and he’s been playing with it ever since. I actually have gotten more Mega Blocks throughout the year so he has more to build with and it continues to be a big hit!

Toy Cars for toddler boys

Soft Pull Back Cars

Alright so we don’t own these currently but they are on our Christmas list this year because he plays with them ALL THE TIME at daycare. Seriously every time I pick O up he is playing with these. I have a little man who loves everything about cars and trucks and so why wouldn’t he love these? The nice thing about them is that they are made of rubber so it is easier for their little hands to grab them. If you have a little one who likes cars they will love these!

Play Gym for 1 year olds

Step 2 Play Gym

Our son got this as a gift for his 1st birthday. I definitely think it is better for a kiddo that’s a least 18 months but since then we’ve been using it every day. We had it set up outside this summer and now that winter is hitting us here in the Midwest it’s so great to be able to have it inside too. So he can use something other than me as a jungle gym!

Wooden Puzzles

These types of wooden puzzles are great for 1-year-olds. I really like that they have the wooden handles attached to them because it helps their little hands be able to rotate the puzzle piece easier. Plus the bigger the pieces the more they feel successful with it. O plays with these puzzles at least a few times a week.

Color Wonder

If you have a more creative little guy he will love these color wonder makers and pages and his parents will love you even more! We’ve got a few different Color Wonder Packs this year and they are so great because they literally CAN’T make a mess. The only place the kiddos can color is on the paper. I have no idea how the magic works but they are great! My teacher heart also loves that he is working on his fine motor skills when he colors.

Big Construction Trucks

As I said before our son is obsessed with every truck imaginable! I think a lot of that started when he got these big trucks last Christmas. They are so fun because he can actually load them up with some of his other toys and drive them around. I also really like their size because I feel comfortable letting him bring them outside to play with and I know he won’t lose them somehow. If you’ve got a little man who loves trucks these are a great gift!

toddler toy

Water Table

Water tables are awesome because they can be used for so many years. Little ones can explore and learn so much from water tables! Our little man had lots of fun playing with his summer and I think I will be upgrading to this one for next summer because the one we got was the only one left at the store when I was searching for one.

outdoor gift ideas for boys

Ride on Car

I am all about the toys that can transition as your child grows so you don’t have to keep buying new toys. These push/ride on cars are so great for that! if your little one is just turning 1 then you can push them around on it with the handle and as they grow they can become more independent and ride around by themselves. O has so much fun riding his car around the house or around our neighborhood if it’s nice out!

Books

Books will always make the list for me as a teacher. They truly help a child’s literacy skills from the start. These could be stocking stuffers for you or you could even just buy a book and use it as a replacement for a greeting card! Any board books are great for 1-year-olds and I personally love to buy ours from TJ Maxx or Marshall’s because they have them at such good prices! However, I’ll also add a list for you of some of our favorite board books over the last year!

There are SO many good books out there but these would probably be our top 3. Plus they are all a series of books so you can check out the ones that go along with them!

I hope you were able to find some great gift ideas for your little man! If you are looking for fun activities to do with your toddler check out my free resource library. Let me know if you have any suggestions on gift ideas for a 1-year-old that I should add to the list let me know in the comments below!

Have a Merry Christmas!
