Now whether you are going to be a stay at home mama or you are on maternity leave with your little one before heading back to work, it’s important to not lock yourself in the house all day with your newborn. Personally, as a stay at home mom while my husband was deployed (3 weeks after our little one was born) I knew I had to get out of the house to help the days pass by quicker and to save my sanity. So here were of my 3 go-to ways to get out of the house with our newborn son.
1. Stroller ride and podcasts
This was a daily thing for us. Even if it was just walking down a couple of houses because it was cold out. I always made the intention to go for a walk each day. I also loved listening to podcasts while on the walk to help me stay motivated or to just be able to hear the thoughts of other adults throughout the day.
2. Drive-thru coffee or lunch
If it was an extra hard day with the little one I gave myself a break/reward and packed us up to go grab some lunch. I’d always pick drive-thrus though so I didn’t have to go through the ordeal of getting him in and out of his car seat and trying to carry the food and him. We all know how much work that can add up to. Pro tip: turn on your favorite music to help unwind a little.
3. Target Run
I mean is there a problem target can’t solve? Honestly, though, I’d time it around when our son would be ready for a nap. We would head to target and I’d babywear him while he napped and I got to just stroll around target mindlessly adding things to my cart. It was always a nice extra outing for us.
If you are a new mama reading this I’m sure you’ve heard it before but be sure to take care of you too! Your body has done amazing things and this new time of life is amazing but exhausting all at the same time. Take time for you, give yourself grace, and know you are a rockstar mom!
Keep creating your own sunshine,
